Issue 7: Do Politics and Privacy Mix?

I definitely agree that there is a double standard with regards to gender and sexuality. However, I do not think that Ball should compare herself to Hillary Clinton. Ball was scrutinized for having racy photos; Clinton was forced to deal with her husband's extramarital affairs while in office. They may both be classified as "victims", but their stories are completely different. I believe that everyone should retain the right to privacy, but the Internet makes that extremely difficult for those in the public eye.

When racy photos or other unflattering items about political candidates surface, I think that time should be considered. A person can mature and grow up a lot in six years. Sometimes as teenagers and young adults, we do things that we later regret but are not allowed to forget in this online universe. Our past should not haunt us forever or completely control our future. The present time should be the most important. In order for politics to change, there must be a shift in thinking and increased open mindedness. Gender should be eliminated from the equation. When we start treating women as equals, we will see the greatest change in politics.
