Issue #2

Email messages have become an essential form of communication used by businesses and individuals, but after reading "The Secret Cause of Flame Wars," I agree that what is meant to be communicated in email messages is often not understood due to failure to have an audience centered approach in the messages. All the rediculous "flame wars" on the internet these days are caused by individuals posting messages on the internet that is often misunderstood. This is because it is much tougher to communicate tone in typed messages than it is in face to face communication. All of these points relate to the "audience centered approach" talked about during class. Often, the writer does not think about how others might interpret the message. Some steps a writer could take to better communicate a message is to proofread the message, limit the topics in the message to one, and to be as clear and concise as possible. Email is a fantastic form of communication, but senders must be sure that the receiver understand what is meant to be understood.
