Issue #2 Troyer

E-mails as a form of communication is a great way to communicate with people that are not only in the same city or office as you but in different states and continents. Now when you get online to look for jobs or try to call a pest control man you send e-mails to them. I believe e-mails are a great tool for company's to reach out to employees and their customers. The author stated that we only have a 50-50 shot in making the correct tone of an e-mail message. Something thought i thought was interesting was the statement by Nicholas Epley, "The reason for this is egocentrism, or difficulty some people have detaching themselves from their own perspective." It is very true that if we do not have person to person contact then our perception of any message is how we see it or hear it in our minds. As you write a message you hear the tone in your head but on paper someone may interpret it differently. that is why you must be very careful and clear in your message. Keeping it simple and to the point will help the receivers decode the message better. Less is more in this type of communication. The writer must proof read their work and maybe have an associate or secretary proof read it so the consumer trust that they are in good, intelligent hands. The hardest part about e-mails and text messages is that you need to determine if they should be formal or casual. Always business should be formal and to the point. Casual may be more relaxed and thrown back but still make the point clear. I hope I don't cause or encounter any Flame Wars in my business profession.
